Production Records, 'Home Run' New Product Highlight Nokian Tyres in 2024

DAYTON, Tenn. – Nokian Tyres set production records at its North American factory, expanded its product range and volume, and grew its regional market presence in 2024. Amidst challenging conditions, the company expanded production operations in the region, strengthened product availability and deepened customer partnerships.

“It’s always exciting to bring new products to the market, and we have been improving productivity and availability,” said Nokian Tyres North America Vice President, Passenger Car Tires Lauri Halme. “It’s an excellent starting point for us to build.”

North American Production Growth

Nokian Tyres reached an annual production record at its Dayton, Tennessee factory in 2024. The company set monthly production highs in October and November en route to the best year ever at the factory, which opened in 2019.

“The energy in the Dayton team is really positive and has been growing throughout the year,” Halme said. “We are improving productivity…week-to-week and month-to-month, which brings a lot of confidence to the team.”

At its award-winning Dayton campus, Nokian Tyres makes all-season and all-weather tires for the North American market. This summer, the company opened a highly automated finished goods warehouse at the factory site capable of holding hundreds of thousands of tires. The expanded storage space enables the tiremaker to house growing production supply and more efficiently deliver products to customers across the continent.

Nokian Tyres also strengthened its light-truck production capabilities in Dayton this year, leading to the full return of products like the Nokian Tyres Outpost nAT and Nokian Tyres One HT, which are popular with all-terrain, SUV and pickup drivers.

A Remedy for Four-Season Driving

The expanding Dayton Factory enabled Nokian Tyres to launch its sixth-generation all-weather tire in 2024. The Nokian Tyres Remedy WRG5 made its debut in January and has been a sales success, offering drivers a true year-round driving solution for areas where wintry weather visits, and helping dealers grow their product mix.

“It has been a home run – the performance is great,” said Nokian Tyres North America Vice President of Sales Tommi Heinonen. “We have already been doing all-weather tires for 25 years, so it’s part of our bread and butter. We are very proud.”

Nokian Tyres introduced the first all-weather passenger tire to North America in 1999 and celebrated the 25th anniversary of that invention with “All-Weather Week” in October.

Strong Customer Relationships

Amidst a challenging market environment, Nokian Tyres served its customers by strengthening product availability and launching programs aimed at helping shops thrive.

Nokian Tyres continues to transform its production and supply network by refining its logistics operations, growing production in Dayton and Nokia. Finland and starting commercial production at its new factory in Oradea, Romania early 2025.

“Our success is built on the success of our customers, so we need to see that our customers are successful,” said Halme. “We have been close to our customer base, and [as] the market turns, we will be there to support our customers. The market will turn for sure.”
