Nokian Tyres is a sustainability leader because it is embedded in our culture. Our Scandinavian values and heritage drive each decision we make. As a result, we have been named to the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index six times, most recently in 2023. We were the first tiremaker to remove harmful high-aromatic oils from our tire compounds. And soon we are opening the first zero-CO2-emissions tire factory in the world in Oradea, Romania.
We strive to minimize environmental impact from our production processes. Our North American production factory in Dayton, Tennessee, is the only tire production building in the world to earn LEED v4 Silver certification. There has been zero waste to landfill from the factory processes since 2022, and the factory is partially powered by solar energy.
In addition to keeping drivers safe, tires should also contribute to a safer planet. More than 90 percent of our tires rank in the lowest categories of rolling resistance, which means they are crafted to minimize emissions and make driving as energy efficient as possible. Nokian Tyres is committed to sustainable procurement of raw materials. And, we were the first tire manufacturer in the industry to remove harmful high-aromatic oils from tire compounds.
Nokian Tyres enjoys rewarding drivers who share our passion for sustainability. The majority of our products are great fits for electric and hybrid vehicles, as their low rolling resistance and durable compounds increase range and handle green vehicles’ heavier loads. We’ve even introduced winter tires specifically for electric vehicles, crafted with SilentDriveTM Technology: the studded Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta 10 EV and the non-studded Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta R5 EV.
